Live radio interviews too raw, too honest, too powerful? Bell Media’s CFAX 1070 in Victoria, BC, terminates talk show host Ian Jessop

Un autre journaliste gênant flushé! Translation of Talk Show Host Ian Jessop Out at C-FAX 1070 (Original in English included below) by Amie du Richelieu, June 23, 2016

I listened to Ian Jessop for his interviews with Jessica Ernst: it was one of the only ways left for her to talk publicly about her case against Encana, Alberta Environment and Alberta Energy Regulator because of her water well being contaminated after repeated shallow hydraulic fracturing in her area.

So much for freedom of expression and the right to a clean environment in this country.

***

This Day In Clarkland…The Sound Of (Media) Silence by RossK, June 22, 2016, Pacific Gazette

ThereWillBeNoMoreSpeakingOfTruthToPowerVille

If you listen to CFAX 1070, which is a BellGlobeCTVEverythingElseMedia property, in the early afternoon you may have noticed that Ian Jessop is no longer there.

Thus, in addition to other things, you no longer get to hear intelligent, fact-based discussions of the goings on in Clarkland.

Especially when Norm Farrell was on.

[Ian’s interview with Norman Farrell was his last before being terminated:

Ian Jessop was fired? According to Mid Island News. Tell me this isn’t so!

Norman Farrell
June 22, 2016 at 9:10 pm
It is so, hours after I appeared and hours before Martyn Brown was to appear. He was not terminated because of ratings because the last measurement showed CFAX improving while CBC lost listeners. Jessop’s program had more listener interactions than other broadcasters at the station and a larger following in podcast audiences.

Since Ian is a first class individual, the only other possible explanation is that Bell Media do not want the interests and opinions of ordinary citizens featured on their programs. This is what happens when media ownership is in the hands of a few wealthy citizens and their corporations.

Boycott CFAX, this is a travesty! ]

****

Puget Sound Radio reckons Mr. Jessop has been ‘terminated’:

A usually well-informed source passes along word that Ian Jessop has just been terminated at C-FAX Victoria.

The talk show host in the 1-3 pm slot M-F has in recent months had his show repeated daily from 6- 8 pm. So one would assume he had been held in somewhat high esteem…

Ratings?

Or.

Something else?

_______
The real tragedy of this is that Mr. Jessop is/was the ONLY local ‘lectronic media voice that consistently looked hard at, and spoke the truth to, the Clark government…

Puget Sound Radio reports that talk show host Ian Jessop is no longer at CFAX AM 1070 Victoria. His profile and photo have been deleted from the station’s website.

Talk Show Host Ian Jessop Out at C-FAX 1070 by boredop, June 21, 2016, Puget Sound Radio

A usually well-informed source passes along word that Ian Jessop has just been terminated at C-FAX Victoria.

The talk show host in the 1-3 pm slot M-F has in recent months had his show repeated daily from 6- 8 pm. So one would assume he had been held in somewhat high esteem.

Courtesy of Gord Lansdell and his Vancouver Broadcasters data bank, here is a summary of Jessop’s recent employment history:

Ian Jessop – Legislative reporter CKNW Vancouver 1980-88; Press Secretary for Premier Bill Vander Zalm and Rita Johnston 1988-91; director of communications BC Liberal caucus 1992-96; co-founder Seismic Events Victoria 2004; director of communications for Gordon Campbell and BC Liberal Party; talk show host CFAX Victoria until today.

We’ll pass along any further word received on this breaking news.

This is very sad news, but in a way, not at all surprising. Ian dared to question authority, especially when it comes to subjects such as vaccines. He was the only one talking about how cannabis cures cancer, that climate change is not man made, plus enlightening his audience about bilderberg and the new world order…MSM kills freedom, and corporate Bell is no exception.

June 21, 2016 – 5:17 pm

I wondered how long he may be allowed to question dogma the way he did.

I tuned in just to listen to him! And I remember Ian back in the early 1970’s when he was the legislative reporter. I had such high esteem for him, and I will him. Maybe I will just turn off the radio now. I always liked listening to him.
Sorry to see him go.
Brian.

Ian was always one of my very favorite people. A friend, totally committed to what he was charged to do. We will miss hearing him, a voice of reason, on the radio.

I’m shocked and dismayed. Ian is a breath of fresh “insightful” air on CFAX and I listen to him almost every day! I hope you will all write and complain to CFAX directly. I’m going to blast through to every one I can think of there, myself. We can’t take this lying down! It’s too bad you can’t post comments easily on their Facebook page (or more that they never seem to really respond anyway). And they make it hard to get through to the upper echelons but I’ll find a way. I’d just finally felt — with Ian — that I wasn’t so miffed about losing Charles Adler a few years back! ?

I am very sorry to learn that Ian Jessop has been terminated by what is obviously an unenlightened management decision. I often disagreed with the views of some of his guests but I thought his program tried to give a pretty balanced range of ideas and opinions. The great thing about radio is that it gives choices to both the listening audiences and those choosing what to broadcast. I started listening to cfax during the CBC strike and then became a frequent listener to Ian Jessop and Terry Moore. I liked the quirky and idiosyncratic ideas bounced around on Ian’s show and relished disagreeing with some of these guests…I think Ian did something we need more of…exposed the audience to those people whose views are often repressed. Just because a guest endorsed cannabis to put an end to my arthritis pain didn’t mean I was going to race out and start using it. Rather, it meant I was going to think about a new option. Ian’s show was thoughtful and eccentric and amusing and we all need more of all that.

Most regretfully to me is that with the loss of ian and his guests we will have less scrutiny of the corrupt and self-serving B.C. government.

This news is very upsetting..finally someone who speaks the truth and is intelligent about it and he’s shut down. I hope every one complains to Cfax as I have done and will boycott their station!

There is no more freedom of the press. The press is controlled by big business. Who did Ian annoy? How close did he get to exposing dirty deals by way of investigative reporting? I hope another radio station picks him up, like the CBC or perhaps he could have an online show.

I’m not really that surprised. Ian was the ONLY reason I listened to CFAX. Along with all the rest of the corporate owned media, my radio dial has fallen silent.

George Carlin said it best. “We have owners. They tell you WHAT TO THINK, THEY TELL YOU WHAT TO FEELYes ,another voice of truth has been silenced, which makes the 1% happy but makes the rest of us, who are not in the club a lot worse off.

I’ll miss Ian very much. He is always the gentleman. I hope he resurfaces.

June 22, 2016 – 10:12 am

I think it is bizarre that the CFAX management have not posted anything about Ian’s abrupt departure on their website . Like they just vaporized the guy and his audience just moves robotically on…talk about disrespecting the listener! Ian Jessop is a terrific radio host with a lot of patience and kindness for both guests and callers. CFAX’S loss…he was the reason I listened to 1070….not any more.

June 22, 2016 – 10:49 am

Jan

The number ONE reason I listened to CFAX was to hear Ian’s show. He gave the listeners what they wanted to hear. His broad range of topics made me eager to tune in every day. His compassion and intelligence showed clearly every day. So sad to see him go. COnfusing makes no sense to me :( I eagerly await the news of where he is going and I will Follow.

June 22, 2016 – 12:06 pm

Reality Check

My bet…he got an ultimatum: Stop having Norm Farrell on as a regular guest exposing the corrupt Liberal government, or you’re gone.

This has shades of when Simi Sara’s producers bumped Alex Tsakumis when Liberal handlers started whispering in CKNW’s managements’ ears.

Ben – i’m glad you share my opinion on Ian’s enlightened comments on vaccines. Thank goodness he was there to question the authority imposed by years of ‘scientific study’ and the work of ‘doctors’ who treat our children. It was extremely comforting to hear him and his guests sharing their personal opinions on the subject; I had finally found a place to get the news that I WANTED to hear, as opposed to the obviously incorrect ‘facts’ that all of the other major new outlets are publishing!

This debate on vaccines MUST NOT end – our children’s lives are at stake and we know what is best for them – NOT BIG PHARMA! For more information on how YOU can help, go here:http://howdovaccinescauseautism.com/

What a loss this is. With so much emphasis on news ‘spin’ Ian Jessop gave us real investigative journalism with guests who had credibility which is why I eagerly tuned in. Too bad the media brass didn’t see it that way and prefer we were fed a diet of bland programming.

June 22, 2016 – 1:52 pm

Peter Patterson

As I turned on CFAX at 1 pm to listen to Ian’s program, I heard another host begin the program without saying that he was filling in for Ian. I immediately thought of the demise of Stephen Andrew, an equally excellent host who stirred the pot and was not afraid of grilling politicians. He too disappeared without a trace one day. What a loss. Hopefully Ian won’t be replaced by the wishy-washy fellow who is filling in today,. I suppose Terry will be next and we will be left with nothing but the pablum that is being dished out at this moment on Ian’s program.

June 22, 2016 – 2:41 pm

I can’t believe they terminated Ian.

Everyone tries to tell me that the Earth is round, but Ian Jessop is the only source I’ll believe. He was unafraid to tell everyone about the conspiracy – the Earth is flat! You’ll be sorely missed by us flat-earthers, Ian.

June 22, 2016 – 3:28 pm

Judy Marston

I’ve decided, since CFAX only allows listeners to post comments to postings they’ve sanctioned, I’m going to start posting this to one of their non-related existing posts: http://www.pugetsoundradio.com/…/ian-jessup-reported-c…/ Bring back Ian Jessop!

If we all do this just once a day somewhere on the site, others will start to understand that he’s been ousted. CFAX has such a buttoned down contact option — no emails, no names of management listed, etc. I spent a bit of time on LinkedIn today looking for Bell Media Radio VPs but it’s tricky to tell who’s who in the zoo. And I’m pretty sure their the “enemy” here anyway.

I hope others here don’t want to take this lying down. CFAX has done this before – quietly axing someone and then never saying boo about it. I’ve also written a letter that I will “snail mail” to their office address.

Any other ideas, folks? How can we support this campaign and not let them just get away with it?!

Thanks to this forum for always being on the ball. This is where I’ve found this type of CFAX info before when they unceremoniously changed or dropped shows and hosts I love.

June 22, 2016 – 8:31 pm

Of coarse Ian is a first class guy and I must say a friend of mine going back to my CKNW days. The important thing, however, is that he was a first class, honest and tough talkshow host who took no shit from guests and pressed his questions until he got a responsive answer. The tragedy here is that CFAX has demonstrated that the Beancounter Faction have won and that the days when the sainted Frank Griffiths owned CKNW and dedicated free speech people like Ted Smith and Ron Bremner held that “free speech” was NW’s stock-in-trade are gone forever, beaten by the money boys whose object is to offend no one. The courageous owners are long gone – in the print media they have entered into mutual masturbation pacts with the fossil fuel industry and have dedicated themselves to support the Liberal government. No serious criticism is tolerated. We have lapsed into a “soft” dictatorship where if you go along, you will get along.

Ian Jessop was a breath of fresh air in that stifling atmosphere. He asked tough questions and pressed until he got an answer. He was a throwback to the era of honesty, courage and a sense of honour, of what was right and wrong.

I warned Ian, on and off air that the bastards would get him and to their eternal discredit they did. But Ian, while it doesn’t put bacon in your pan or a cold one on the table, you can hold your head high and know that those who matter, hold you in the highest esteem. Jack Webster would be proud of you. For what it’s worth, I’m proud as punch of you.

Never forget, old friend, that you are in the pantheon of honest media people who called it as you saw it and while you may feel down a bit now, you have respect, the respect of the people who count, those who listened to a man who spoke freely and expected them to do the same.

The weasels who don’t know what real journalism and free speech mean, took your job and your money and paid for it with their self respect.

You are a credit to our profession.

What Great Testimonies!
When I first started listening to Ian on the debut of his new show, afternoons on CFAX a couple of years ago, my thoughts were Wow! As stated in the first comment by Ben, Ian did indeed, dare to go where very few tread. Ian is one a few, a nugget in the grass and I’m thankful we at least had the opportunity to listen to him first hand, as he continued to expose the truth, like no other on-air host today. True Journalism at its best. Something NW fails miserably at

Twitter feed #IanJessopFired Post all things IanJessop there. CFAX is not a new station. They are an embarrassment. Anything slightly uncomfortable they run with their tail between their legs. Today I heard the ‘host’ of Ian’s show said he would not stand for criticism of Christy Clarks wardrobe. WTF? The capital city of BC and their radio station doesn’t have the balls to tell outside interests to naff off? Incredible. They canned Stephen Andrew as well. What are they afraid of? Can’t they stand proud and call them selves a news “authority”, rather than a p-whipped lap dog? BRING BACK IAN!

CFAX has always seemed unreal to me, not really representative of the Victoria I know and love, and I was born here in 52.
1070 AM is very crass, very corporatist, very obnoxious, etc.

Now is the time for you benighted CFAX globalists to wake up, rehire Mr. Jessop, and while you are at it, sign a full contract with Infowars.com.
I’ve learned a lot from those brave patriots, especially Alexander E. Jones.

It was probably Mr. Jessop’s having interviewed Victorian Dr. Tim Ball on more than one occasion that got the big Canadian radio executives in a slashing mood… can’t have a respected climatologist questioning the great globalist myth of CO2 driving global average surface temperatures up, can we now?

Former Canadian Navy men like Tim Ball can’t be heard questioning the whole sick Agenda 21 eugenicist endgame; that would open a whole bunch of Pandora’s boxes, like ‘why fight in NATO wars?’ and ‘what is happening in our skies?’ (ref.: Will Thomas’ 2000 Van. anti-chemtrails geoengineering speech).

Dr. Ball is dangerous to the New World Order and, ipso facto, so is Ian Jessop for having given him a media platform from which to spread his living truth…

Ian was the only reason I listened to CFAX. He was an excellent host, and created insightful discussions on many issues that are not carried by mainstream radio programs. I did not agree with all his ideas or his guests, but this is why I kept tuning in… it challenged my views.

It is a sad day for talk radio, and especially sad day for CFAX. I will no longer be listening to CFAX as it has little other quality programming.

I strongly suggest everyone call and email the station to show your displeasure. Perhaps call “on air” and ask what happened… this may make them squirm a little.

As this story unravels, if it turns out he was terminated simply for airing his views I will be contacting any and all advertisers on CFAX and let them know they are paying a radio station that censors information and shuts down open, democratic conversation. If the sponsors and advertisers start pulling their funding, perhaps they’ll listen. Money seems to be the only thing that talks these days. Good luck Ian, I hope to hear you on the airwaves again soon.

Ian was a gentleman, intelligent, curious and an engaging and compassionate radio host. He had a fabulous sense of humour and humility.

CFAX firing Ian Jessop is depressing and insulting. [Bell Media’s intent?]

I had the honour of being interviewed by Ian a number of times, with respect to our lawsuit and the impacts we endured from hydraulic fracturing operations by our home. Mr. Jessop, also regularly hosted Jessica Ernst on the contamination of the Rosebud aquifer and her case against the AER, Encana and the Crown. Ian even hosted joint interviews with us. I am forever grateful that he had the courage and empathy to host us on his show, so that our experiences could be broadcast on mainstream media, something that rarely, if ever happens.

At times, he predicted he could very well be terminated for airing the issues he did. How disturbing to believe that by doing good things, could mean losing your job.

What a stunning realization that this is what indeed happened to Ian and that free speech and truth in journalism is a shell game.

I wish Mr. Jessop all the best and hope he finds a better place to inform and interact with listeners, one that values integrity and honesty.

OMG! Just noticed they’ve plunked Adam Stirling into the 9am-noon slot starting Monday. And, as noted elsewhere, Pamela McCall will move to Ian’s slot. Now, I used to really quite like Adam when he first started with CFAX, until he became so loud and opinionated. I can’t listen anymore as his voice is often so much louder than his guest’s that it’s frustrating to listen to. I’m so upset; I can’t believe this is happening. Pamela is very good but she’s gotten more and more “the same” — same guests, same conversations, same-same-same — with very little bite! If you’re reading this Pamela, don’t take it wrong. I now know that any host on CFAX has to tow the line or else! Guess it’s just as well, as it will make my resolve to stop listening to CFAX even stronger with Adam taking over my morning listening.

On another subject, so glad to see more and more people posting here. And the CFAX Facebook page is getting lots of “comments” too. Even heard a woman ask directly on the air today “Why was Ian fired?” to a somewhat discombobulated Mark Brennae. Must be tough to be the co-workers in this kind of situation as I’m sure Ian was well-liked and respected by his peers.

Ian is one of the best on radio. I listened to his program every day. I knew this would happen because you can only piss off Christie and the Liberals for so long by exposing them by the way they have governed this province. Farewell Ian and goodbye CFAX.

Ian won’t be a part of the lineup going forward, but I do believe we have a very strong group of people working on our talk shows and that we will continue to deliver the news and talk that matters to our listeners.”

I strongly disagree.

I am a driver and listen to cfax all day every day for many years. Ian was definitely in the top 1 or 2 of my favorite hosts. I often turn on the radio when I get home because the topics are so interesting and he keeps things as unbiased as possible. A true reporter for the people. Very disappointed with this decision and I’m not sure I can keep supporting this station. Best of luck to Ian and hopefully whatever signal he ends up on can be picked up in Victoria.

Interesting reply Murphy. ‘FAX’s on air problem far exceed their on-air hosts. Subject matter, political correctness, fear of controversy, blandness are all part of their failings. But compounding that is their pathetic newsroom. Mind you in the 30 plus years I have been listening to them, they haven’t had a news department worthy of the name. It is bad enough the hosts stumble and struggle with English, but news people are supposed to be a cut above. First they should be able to pronounce “news”,. Then they should be able to read a newscast with good pacing and proper pausing. Then, they should not be relying on the local newspapers as their principle news source. They should have people who go to news events, not depend on tweets and failing TV reporters. There is an old adage in radio news gathering, “If you read it, it is history, if you hear it, it is news,”. Your local paper should be cribbing your stories, not the other way around.

June 23, 2016 – 5:20 pm

to C Murphy: I “thought” that may have been you asking Mark what happened with Ian. And pretty pathetic response — just another bunch of blah blah — from CFAX brass. As uninspired and lacklustre as most of their other offerings. And obviously a bunch of baloney!

(BTW loved, loved, loved your comments, Bud! Bang on! I was lambasted by a “hater” one day on CFAX FB when I tried to help by phonetically spelling out a name for their young male broadcaster who was struggling with it, hour after hour. Is there no one in the newsroom who can help with pronunciation anymore?)

June 23, 2016 – 6:57 pm

Thanks Judy. I have the personal e-mail of the poor lad in question and have on more than one occasion sent him prono’s on the word “news”. He seems neither to have any inclination to learn nor does he enjoy any mentoring from CFAX or the few older staff still surviving. I have also frequently on the FB page pointed out linguistic failings for other on-air personalities…well, most of them in fact. They don’t care or aren’t capable. They call themselves the news authority and quite frankly from my 20 years in the business, not one of them in the newsroom would know a news story or lead if it sat on their collective faces and farted. I know this for a fact, as I have over the years given them news tips which, followed up would have made them known nationally.

I hope Ian comes back on the air, somewhere. I enjoyed his quiet demeanor, humour and the topics he brought up. I e-mailed Bell Media and Frank Stanford at CFAX. No response from either. This protest should go on until the truth is told. I don’t think Ian would go back to CFAX, if offered, as he would probably be put on a leash, which would not bode well for his show. If Ian knows of this site and the support he is receiving from his loyal audience, he might be comforted to know he will be missed. Good luck Ian. Hope to hear you again soon.

Ian Jessop is the ONLY reason I listened to Cfax. Often, I would listen to the repeat, in the evening, if I missed something, wanted to take notes the 2nd time, have my husband listen …

I have successfully deleted ALL links, in my computer history, so Cfax no longer comes up, anywhere. Will never turn on their smut again … Never …

Going to miss such a wonderful man. Will look here for his NEW job, he so deserves.

Yes, I emailed Cfax and can not have facebook as I used to visit a federal prison. Otherwise, this would be all over my facebook. Hope it does, on those that have such a medium.
Ian was the greatest man on radio. His guests were great as I always learned so much.
To the best talk show host since I moved to the Island many decades ago.

Bell Media – NOTE – you DO NOT own the world. We despise your decision. I agree with and am busily reading all the comments here. Thank you PugetSoundradio.

To Whom it May Concern:

Dear Bell Media,

Shame.

Your ruthless action speak louder than words. It shows many that that you are indeed Not as Community Minded, or community oriented as you profess to be.

From where I sit it is just More Political manipulation at foot. We see it at work all the time.

Shame.

Ian ran a super cool, often controversial, always informative and interesting show. It is a true shame that it was aired on CFAX, one of the most useless radio stations that I have ever had the displeasure of listening to. I only hope that Ian can secure a position with a broadcaster that doesn’t have its head inserted firmly up its ass, as is the case with useless bloody CFAX and their Eastern masters Bell Media. This is not the first time that CFAX has made such a colossal blunder and sadly won’t be the last. Obviously the Age of Enlightenment has not been embraced by Bell Media and their pitiful radio station CFAX.

Corporates like Bell Media should take the news of the Brits decision to split from the elitist EU seriously, (which I might remind all, an UNELECTED body of individuals making big time decisions for you and I). Thank God people are beginning to wake up and smell the roses. I’m thankful CFAX actually gave Ian a platform to expose the corruptness of governments, from local, provincial, federal and globally. Ian knows and understands whats at stake, as Bill Vander Zalm stated above, was a voice of reason on radio. That voice of reason, no longer being part of CFAX 1070 is still alive and well. I believe Ian will reappear earlier, than one can imagine. I know Ian is very thankful for all the comments on this forum, and he advised me he’s really not in a good position to discuss anything at this time,, which I take to mean and understand, he will back, but not on 1070. I wanted to comment on an earlier comment about CFAX not being a news real news station, and unfortunately the poster is correct. However, lets give credit where credit belongs, the station became well known for a solid newsroom beating out radio stations like CJVI and CKDA who both had incredible newsrooms in their time. News Directors like Gorde Williamson at CJVI, JJ Richards at CKDA….. when we lost these stations, we lost newsrooms, very talented news people who were grew up to become journalists themselves. What was CFMS, became the Ocean, and now lets looks at what comprises of a newsroom at Rogers in Victoria. Even though Jack FM didn’t have a fully furnished news room, they were still doing news. Now with the flip to KiSS, NO MORE NEWS PEriod! Yes, the Q has their two news guys, but they’re really not the kind of radio station I would tune in for news, same applies to the ZONE. Hey, the programming is great, and the ‘touch’ of news fits well with the format. What I’m saying is there’s no indepth coverage. With these stations abandoning news the way they have, its no wonder the local CBC is reigning in most markets, because they do focus in on news, interviews and in Victoria in particular, the national broadcaster is well into the community….

In 1932 in Germany there began a rather gradual but relentless muzzling of journalists who discussed anything that ran contrary to the National Socialist Party. That party was far from socialist in its agenda, as history would prove. Now our media is more directed by our corporate and government marriage – like relationship, so Ian just had to go. We hope his voice and concerns find another venue, and that CFAX advertisers seriously question the wisdom of financing a media that is not free speech. That’s you Bell.

Here is my letter to CFAX management (no reply received so far!)

Never has such an egregious error been made by your radio station than the unwarranted and untimely firing of Ian Jessop.

This indicates to me that you are grossly underrating the value of free speech, well-researched investigative journalism and Ian’s intelligent and inquiring approach to a myriad of issues. It matters not if we are always in agreement, or whether his ideas ranged from provocative to informed opinion. What is important to our local community is that we had a voice that was willing to break through the norm of reporting and provide a stimulating contribution to talk radio. Ian was fearless in challenging the status quo, probed the issues with good background knowledge and invited his listeners to be strong critical thinkers. I believe by firing him you have created a significant vacuum of information which will be sorely missed.

I am not alone in thinking that this a huge error of judgement and many listeners now intend to abandon CFAX as a result of this change. Many of us appreciated Ian’s unique perspectives with informed guests and his talent for including fresh ideas, political reality checks and interesting, thought provoking discussion. A healthy society needs an intelligent exchange of ideas and media holds the responsibility of diverse representation. I believe that by firing Ian you have set limits on the discussion of too many topics.

I consider this to be disingenuous to your listeners, that Ian was just made to disappear without any respectful honouring of his contribution or any reason given for his departure. We are therefore left with the conclusion that you are stifling free debate and are merely returning to the guided norms of other corporate media outlets. This is beyond disappointing when we have the capacity to build on community-based participatory radio that links us through diversity rather than standardization.

I would therefore appreciate knowing a bit more about your rationale for firing Ian not only out of respect for him as a host, but also out of respect for us your listening audience. I look forward to your response.

Ian was a Shining light in the darkness. He was part of the pantheon of honest media people who called it as you saw it. He always stood up for the little guy, and brought the TRUTH to many, many controversial subjects including the Climate Change Scam and the health benefits of Cannabis. The Globalist Elite have silence his voice for now, but have a feeling we will be hearing him again. Maybe not at C-Fax, but you can’t silence the truth forever…….you can only interrupt it for short periods of time.

Great letter, Heather! And great comments all around. You can certainly tell this is a group that really likes to exercise their minds in their spare time, like me! I wish there were more of us!

I understand James Stuart of Bell Media (Radio) is the VP on this side of the country. I haven’t been able to track him down on LinkedIn and have done a fair bit of Googling around Bell’s site to see what I can find, as well as a few other possibilities. So far, no luck finding his direct email address. If anyone else finds it, please pass it along. I’m sending my “snailmail” protest to this address in Vancouver, to his attention: 969 Robson St., Vancouver, V6Z 2E7. And I’m seeing a bunch of folks sneaking in their “Bring back Ian Jessop” comments on the CFAX Facebook page. They have deleted a number of mine but not all! Keep spreading the word! I know it won’t bring him back to CFAX but I still hate for them to just get away with this, scott-free!

Thank you Ian for all of the years of educating CFAX listeners on so, so many important and interesting topics. Thank you especially for holding our governments feet to the fire and letting CFAX listeners know what their government is or is not doing. People like you play a very important role in our democracy. Thank you also for giving us all sides of the debate, thus allowing us to come to our own informed decisions. It is a terrible day when our governments put pressure on our media outlets to censor their hosts or articles. It is a terrible day when our media outlets bow to that pressure. If this is as it appears to be, CFAX should hang their heads in shame. They have just fired their best talk show host. If they didn’t realize that and thought that he would not be missed then now is the time for them to hire him back with a big wage increase. Their show will not be the same without him. I have to wonder……..given that this is supposed to be a free society…….with freedom of speech and the right to criticize your government openly……….could this be a wrongful dismissal? I think that the big shake up at CFAX is to divert attention away from just that. You will be missed Ian. I will be watching for you to resurface.

Free speech, intellectual discussion, truth and facts, censored by ignorant cowards of CFAX radio, the criminals running the Liberal party of BC. Ian Jessop was the ONLY reason to listen to cfax. A sad time for REAL thinking people.

I can only reflect the same comments of support for Ian’s class act of reporting and vast knowledge on many subjects of interest. CFAX will not take him back and he should not go back to them. He’s too good for a station that continues to decline in the ratings and quality among those of us who wish the to dig up the truth. I will boycott all Bell Media outlets from now on and not support any of the companies that advertise with them which allows them continue to sensor our media. I’ve been a loyal listener to this station for over 35 years but it’s time to send them a message. Good luck Ian Jessop and hope you come to the airwaves again with a company who truely appreciates your talents. D.

Ian Jessop was the finest host that CFAX has had for many years. He tackled very important topics with intelligence, and he interviewed informed and interesting guests. The reason I made time to listen to CFAX was for his show, and in the process I actually gained a grain of respect for CFAX. And what do they do? Terminate him and threaten to further elevate the vacuous Adam Stirling into prime time! Are they insane?

CFAX’s interpretation of how to make a profit while ‘serving the public’ is appalling, and this fiasco is particularly disturbing. Why would they drop a program that did more than reinforce dogma, and that routinely examined topics beyond what is mainstream and self-reinforcing? I will follow up on the suggestions noted above by Judy Marston and do something. I will start by sending my opinion to CFAX and I’ll look for ways to express my opinion to their advertisers. As a goal, I would like to see Ian Jessop back to gainful employment, and to hear him continue with thoughtful and objective public interviews of his choice.

As a parting comment, I am puzzled at how CFAX continues to survive. To keep it turned on feels like an act of charity.

I looked forward to Ian’s interviews and now that he has been terminated I am moving my loyalties to a music station. I am disappointed by CFAX decisions for programming. BIG mistake for CFAX. Maybe they will have the collective wisdom to bring him back NOW and fire the corporate puppet that caved to political pressure. Shame on them that direct and control what is purported to be a NEWS station. Who, and how can they be so stupid?
We will never tune in to CFAX again and avoid Bell corporate business.
The business community will also look for other communication channels when their advertising fails because the majority of previous listeners/followers just turned off and posted “dislikes” . Maybe then they will get it… TOO LATE.

My faith in free speech has been crushed by the news that Ian Jessop has been fired. His ‘crime’ was that he let the listening public know what was REALLY going on in BC and the country. Listening to Ian I learned things that I never saw on TV or read in the paper. What a shame that the establishment felt so threatened by him that they had him fired. A sad, sad day.

CFAX, what have you done? If we could hear a few words from Ian Jessop on his wishes at this point — I am thinking of contacting all the advertisers on cfax and telling them not to bother anymore – because we’re no longer listening.
Ian, CBC radio Victoria might be an option for you?
We could do a FB page about this issue, rather that having to go to the USA for news about you.
No matter what happens, I will always be so very grateful for your honesty, digging deep and bravely going where so many others fear to tread. Bravo!

Ian Jessop @cfax1070 was a radio host with commitment and guts, handling topics others refused. He was fired.
For Ian Jessop : http://www.bcveritas.com/index.php/2016/06/27/for-ian-jessop/

For Ian Jessop – by Merv, June 27, 2016
Ian Jessop served as a radio host with commitment and guts. He handled topics others refused to touch. He was fired from CFAX radio in Victoria last week for reasons undisclosed by decision makers at Bell media whose names we don’t know…other than the name of Heather Kim, the local manager. Heather Kim, according to others’ reports, won’t say anything except to blather about ‘new direction’. She hasn’t responded to my email.

Here’s why Ian Jessop’s firing matters. It sends a not so subtle chill through other media who may be considering doing the kind of news talk that he did. There are two broad types of lies government tells us, the statistical lie and the integrity lie. Ian was devoted to exposing both.

The Statistical Lie:

Ian regularly had Norm Farrell as a guest. Norm’s blog “In-Sights” is the province’s go to source for statistical information on the devastating drop in revenues to the public purse from resource extraction under the reign of Gordon Campbell, but particularly under Christy Clark. Norm also discussed problems with the Site C project and BC Hydro’s bankrupting at the hands of 60 year IPP contracts.

On Site C, the $10 billion, largest infrastructure project in BC history, Harry Swain, chair of the joint Federal/Provincial review panel that studied the project, did not believe the load demand forecasts. That panel recommended Site C be reviewed first by the BC Utilities Commission. The BCLiberals refused.

Harry Swain is now on public record calling the dam a hugely expensive mistake. The reasons to be concerned are well documented at Norm’s site, and also Laila Yuile’s. But Harry Swain has not been on the six o’clock news as far as I’m aware. If you think about that , it’s shocking.

Swain isn’t some blogger one can dismiss lightly (and you know I don’t think bloggers should be dismissed just because they are bloggers ? ) . . Newfoundland recently had to admit its Muskrat Falls dam was a massive mistake. We should be very concerned that Site C is a mistake as well.

The Integrity Lies

I wrote in the past month about Christy Clark’s strange trip to Haida Gwaii to promise school funding outside our jurisdiction, and the questions and contradictions surrounding that. Ian Jessop was the only MSM personality who asked the legitimate questions raised by me, and by John Horgan in the legislature. The premier hasn’t proposed a credible alternative to the idea that the trip would help a councillor in a band election who favored a project of financial interest to her brother. The third of three posts on that subject is linked here : http://www.bcveritas.com/index.php/2016/06/06/again-on-the-old-massett-150k-grant-new-information/

What Ian Jessop recognized is that contradictory and changing “splaining” by principal actors in a story are the red flag that should set media digging. Some lies were told, and Ian wanted to know who was lying and why.

Someone said to me last night.. “I’m surprised they haven’t gone after McComb, Simi, and Drex (of CKNW).”

“They” would be the corporate masters and political pressure operatives RossK refers to as the “wizards of Clarklandia”. “They” control journalist’s access, and advertising spends.

(Indeed, Jon McComb, Simi Sara, and Drex have all in their way criticized the Clark government pretty harshly on occasion. Kudos to them when they have done so..It’s not necessary to criticize the Clark government because it is right wing in philosophy, but because it is chaotic and dishonest. Witness the return of $25 mill of $54 mill cut from education… Witness the sudden spending on rural schools in threatened ridings…Witness how local school boards, the “local decision makers on closures”, are now being pressured by MLA’s to save particular schools a year ahead of the election. All othis new spending and political backtracking occurred AFTER School Board budget work had been largely completed. Chaos. )

Another lie was exposed by independent media recently… In a piece by Discourse Media, we read that the Lax Kw’alaam’s sudden reversal on the PNW LNG project , hailed by Clark, was not true, and didn’t reflect the true community sentiment on the project at Lelu Island. It’s a long piece.. go read it now: http://www.towardreconciliation.discoursemedia.org/investigation/divide-and-conquer/

The Premier’s office had to backtrack on a statement that the Lax Kw’alaams had voted massively in favour of the project. The only recorded vote on the project was the opposite. The Premier’s office claimed that the First Nation had done its internal consultations prior to a stunning reversal, in which the new Mayor wrote to the Canadian Environmental Agency in qualified support, only weeks after opposing it. According to the link just above, nobody in the community, admittedly divided under pressure, had been consulted.

Sometimes, events smell like bribes. They just smell. And if you think that could never happen in BC, read this piece which also got no media coverage, from last year….. In which the Haida nation claimed Enbridge was offering cash for individual signatures on a supportive piece of paper. http://www.bcveritas.com/index.php/2015/06/30/time-to-call-in-the-rcmp-has-enbridge-offered-bribes/

We need media to dig when these things happen.. We need people like Ian Jessop. We need media who not only report what a Minister or Opposition critic wants in the public realm, but dig for what they don’t. Orwell: “everything else is propaganda”.

It’s the reality of decisions within a private corporation that we will never know what specifically caused the dismissal. This is a loss to all of us. I hope he lands somewhere soon that values “afflicting the comfortable”. I also hope CFAX doesn’t fall back to being a sleepy station that fails to question authority.

Well i only recently started listening to CFAX because of Norm specifically and now i will no longer just like i have listened to CKNW since Frosty used to do the mornings. I would listen to NW all day and into the evening. Now i listen for the weather and the first 5 minutes of Simi’s show to see if she found her spine that day but most of the time i shut it right off. We really do need some sort of laws to force our “media” to do their jobs instead of doing a job on us.

Precisely… Make a phone call. Send an email. A few known cranks like me aren’t enough to force media to change attitude….There are good people in media, but there are lots of reasons to softball coverage. It needs to be known that public dissatisfaction affects the bottom line for them and their advertisers.

I’m disappointed and more than a little disturbed to hear that CFAX has terminated Ian Jessop. Ian’s guests were intelligent, informed and interesting. I have no interest in the current line-up of show hosts and I will not be tuning in to them. CFAX is no longer providing ‘talk that matters’ for this listener. I will be contacting CFAX to let them know that I choose not to listen to the information that they are choosing to feed me.

I hope we will be able to hear Ian Jessop and his guests again somewhere in the near future, and I wish him all the best.

I have listened to CFAX since 1990 and Ian Jessop has been my favourite host by far. He brings up so may interesting and stimulating topics. I have learned so much listening to Ian. Ian has always been a journalist with integrity who is not afraid to dig into topics that no one else will touch.

He will be sorely missed by all of his many listeners, and, I hope, by CFAX and Bell Media when they are confronted by the loss of much of their audience. I like many others will no longer listen to CFAX.

A real loss… I hope that Ian finds a new opportunity to inform us about what is really happening.

Has anyone heard a word about Frank Stanford this week? His 9-10am slot has been usurped by Adam S. (eyes rolling here) And now Terry Moore is ramping things up so he can sign off on his show on Friday. A new era, indeed! It’s so nice to know I’m not alone in the frustration and anger around Ian’s removal. If anyone has any ideas re: online news-related podcasts out there please pass them along. I had a quick chat with Ian earlier this week and have been brainstorming some new ideas but would love to hear of any podcasts of news-related shows that you know about. Thanks!

There are so many angry people over the CFAX decision and you can include me in that group. I lived elsewhere and listened to talk radio and if you did not say what the host wanted to hear he/she cut you off right away. I phoned in occasionally to the Jessop show and like all other callers was treated with respect by Ian.
I am not a big radio listener but as Ian Jessop was my favourite I kept my dial at 1070 and even put up with the endless advertising. As of yesterday the radio dial will not go near 1070 and I will also boycott the advertisers I heard during the program.

It’s with deep regret that I hear that Ian Jessop has been let go. In trying times, when good sense, integrity, and the questioning of authority is most desperately needed, it is hardest to come by. I’ve watched for several years as a diverse group of citizens have tried to bring common sense and public dialog to the shadow ‘smart meter’ program… one run completely outside the bounds of democracy and with flagrant disregard to human health. Ian Jessop was the only media person willing to talk about this topic… not a single other media person that I’m aware of has had the courage to do anything but mock and ridicule. Ian’s show was a rare one, that you could tune into expecting that your time was well invested. In a perverse way, it’s to Ian’s credit that he’s been seen as unfit to be part of this corrupted and docile puppet media promoting propaganda rather than information of value to thinking citizens. As George Orwell said, “In a time of universal deceit – telling the truth is a revolutionary act.” Good work Ian, you’ll be a hero of the revolution.

Ian Jessop is one that should get a trophy for bringing the facts to the public, which I’ve always thought that the media ,like Radio, TV and News Papers are supposed to do. There is a lot going on in our poisoned environment that is effecting public health and well being and we depend on the media ,(or at least we should be able to)for answerers .It won’t be long from now when CFAX will owners will wish they had more people that had inform them and the public about some of the deadly acts that are taking place by industry and governments.
Keep in mind We are all ,including you, being affected by pollution, both visible and invisible which may shorten our lives ,and THE PUBLIC HAS THE RIGHT TO KNOW!!!

BC and Canada no longer have independent media, they are all “owned” and told what to say.

Ian Jessop, a “real” investigative reporter”, was one of the last to exist in British Columbia.

If CFAX / Bell Media do not re-instate Mr. Jessop, they have permanently lost this household as listeners. I’m sure we’re not the only ones to leave.

Word of mouth is the best way to advertise…. With the firing of Ian Jessop, CFAX has just committed themselves to negative advertising. Good luck staying in business.!

The more I learn about how little of the important news is provided to the public, the less I am inclined to watch or listen to any of it. I prefer to spend the time I would have spent watching/listening to the news seeking sources of true independent news , with an honest array of content and opinion. In depth investigation into the important issues of the day. Too much of todays media is nothing more than opium for the masses.
Hopefully soon the advertisers in the main stream media realise the lack of content and honesty in the news is chasing people away and their advertising dollars are being spent on fewer and fewer ears/eyes etc.
If the main stream media wants to become irrelevant in todays world continue firring people like Ian, keep control of your news agenda as you are now, you will be broadcasting to dead air space.

I am outraged that Ian Jessop has been fired. I guess no one at CFAX had the courage to let him speak the truth. Just follow the money, probably. Even if it’s corporate greed money.

Not happy c-fax listener.
As I usually listen most of my work day I enjoyed his show from 1-3 then Terry afterwards. I like Frank 9-10 who I haven’t heard since this change up. Hope he fits in somewhere in the line up too.
Not really a big fan of Adam from 9-noon now, and don’t like Pamela and her show . Never did. Unfortunately for me I think I’m going to listen to more CBC now.
Too bad too because I liked Ian’s show, and most of the line up they had.

Wish they could have addressed it on air just to explain to the audience that’s been listening and loyal
Good luck to Ian going forward ~

If CFAX feels that REAL journalism is irrelevant, in preference of soft ‘news-entertainment, why listen to this station at all? There are dime a dozen radio station, broadcasting nauseatingly irrelevant fluff!

Ian Jessup is old school, who took journalism seriously. He dared to question governments irresponsible actions. Site C, the BC HYDRO smart meter fiasco and the side-lining of the publicly funded utility watchdog, BCUC.

How can any self respecting broadcaster abandon free journalism?
Is free journalism dead in Canada?

I worked in radio years ago in Ontario, then quit and moved out here to smell the ocean air. When CHUM Radio in Toronto made noises about starting a TV station here to compete with CHEK, I couldn’t believe it, I knew the market was too small to support both stations. But Moses Znaimer, head of City-TV at the time (and owned by CHUM), went ahead anyway; it was the last thing he did before being ‘retired’ by CHUM. When CHUM made noises about buying CFAX Radio and moving it into the same renovated furniture store location, I begged owner Mel Cooper not to sell. But he wanted to move on to other things and sold anyway (for about $10 million, a lot of which he apparently sank into that disaster at Crystal Gardens called the BC Experience). Then CTV bought CHUM. And Bell owns CTV. That’s the corporate chain. And now Heather Kim calls the corporate shots for CTV on Vancouver Island: https://twitter.com/heatherkimyyj Has she made all the recent changes at CFAX? Don’t know for sure, progamming changes are usually made by the program director, in this case Al Ferraby.

By the way, Jessop fans, all of Ian’s old shows used to be posted on soundcloud.com, but some have mysteriously disappeared. You can go to that website and search his name and see that some are there, in no particular order.

Subject: BC Hydro (The BC Liberal Government) ‘s Cite C dam.

There’s widespread opposition to the Site C dam for good reason:

1. It will flood vast areas of farmland and drown wildlife habitat. According to a federal-provincial environmental impact assessment, the dam will cause irreversible effects on land, habitat and wildlife, making fishing unsafe for at least a generation. Since there’s no demand for more more power in BC, Clark’s now proposing that Site C power be used for tar sands extraction and fracking projects.[4]

2. It violates First Nations treaty rights. The right to fish, trap, and hunt cannot be exercised if the land is drowned, the fish diseased, and the wildlife killed off. If Site C is built the Treaty First Nations signed won’t be worth the paper it’s written on.[5]

3. It’s a colossal economic waste. BC doesn’t even need the energy that Site C would produce, meaning that the multibillion dollar price tag for the project would be huge pile of public waste – one that you’ll be footing the bill for via your bloated monthly hydro bill. $8.8 billion could be better spent on sustainable energy for communities across the province, shaping an energy future for BC that creates local jobs and makes BC a green energy leade

Ian Jessop’s in air interviews were the only reason I tuned into CFAX radio. Shame on them for firing him! This radio station is now dead to me and I no longer have any use for it!

Craig at the Valley Voice in Chilliwack was fired a few months ago because he was one of the brave BC journalists that aired and told the truths about all the problems associated with the smart meters BC Hydro is violating our rights by forcing them on people’s homes and businesses… Ian Jessop wasn’t another one who would discuss these dangerous and deadly devices. I called CFAX radio station last week and left a voicemail message for the lady who fired Ian Jessop… she’s never gotten back to me… CFAX RADIO, YOU ARE NOW DEAD TO ME!!

May the fleas of a thousand camels infest your arm pits!
Shame on you.

Despite rumours to the contrary, I’m told Frank Stanford is taking a break. Frank is a private person so the staff has not been told if it is a health issue or whatever.

Me again… I notice that there are now “CFAX Afternoon” podcasts available on CFAX’s podcast page (scroll down to the very bottom) that appear to be Ian’s shows going back as far as the SoundCloud system goes… I have never tracked it all the way to the beginning. So, they’re there for the moment. But I have my doubts they’ll be there very long, somehow. And thanks for the twitter address for Heather Kim!

Hard to believe in just over a week CFAX has changed up their whole talk show format, including the “replacement” of Ian Jessop. Ian was one of a kind, and I think one of the most thoughful and rational voices on the radio. Very bad move CFAX. And now Adam Sterling is back full time, taking over Frank Stanford’s slot. No word about Frank, but hopefully he is not gone. I always enjoyed listening to both Ian and Frank. And Frank’s commentary every morning was most often, thought provoking. Hopefully he will be back. And now Terry Moore finishing today…..I can’t believe all this is coincidence. His replacement Mark Brennae is a real lightweight as far as I am concerned, and I can’t see myself listening to that program. So the bean counters at CFAX have angered a lot of people (listeners!!!!) and I believe some of the comments, that they will change the dial for good. I hope Ian can find some other outlet for his talents. Wishing him well. We will be following this story.

Ian Jessop is gone from CFAX . Another corporate business decision. Bell Media is counting on people making a little noise and then going back to their I Phones. Bell is counting on people having no memory, having no long lasting moral outrage,no context to understand what is going on. But some of us still remember for a long time. We have watched our society slip into the information void .
“Let me take you down, Cause I’m going to, Strawberry Fields, Nothing is real, And nothing to get hung about, Strawberry Fields forever”
Bell Media is counting on the idiot savants who pull the leavers for them, to pull the trap door, after the professional beheading. maybe it will be their head next ,maybe we are all in the Queue.

So sad that true freedom of the press is gone. I don’t listen to that station any longer. I have also written letters to some of the sponsors of that station. So far i’ve written to Heirloom Linens, Thrifty’s, and Fairways stores. I can’t remember all the sponsors, so if any one can help me out here, that would be helpful. I’ve been spreading the word out to my family and friends and they are on board with my boycott. I’ve written to CHEK TV to promote Ian Jessop to have a program similar to the Jack Webster show. They should move on that instead of the afternoon crap that they run now. No reply yet.

What a shame to hear of Ian J. being used for political browner points with/because he was critical of a corrupt political party (Lieberals).

What has happened to media when the local government can dictate what is truth and what is printed/spoken.

Cfax has lost the small measure of credibility that Ian was more then able to carry and now has nothing left of interest for the BOSSES so will end up on the waste heap with the rest of Christy Clarks door mat’s.

Ian – Good luck in your next endeavor, may I suggest the Rebel ? could always use another honest reporter over there.

Thanks to Judy Marston for the podcast info. I just listened to what was apparently Ian Jessop’s last show, Friday,June 17, for any clue about his leaving, but he sounds upbeat as usual. “I notice that there are now “CFAX Afternoon” podcasts available on CFAX’s podcast page (scroll down to the very bottom) that appear to be Ian’s shows going back as far as the SoundCloud system goes”
Thanks to Peter for writing to advertisers. Some others are: http://www.endoftheroll.com, http://www.citrusocarpetcleaning.com/, alpinecredits.ca, CapitalDirect.ca, Fortis.bc.ca, CraveTV.ca, and there are many more.

“Talk that matters”. Not any more. I will no longer be bothering with CFAX, knowing that only talk that doesn’t matter will be found there. Such as dragging out the Kennedy Assassination theories to make it look like questioning official reports is alive and well on CFAX. Good try but not what is required. Questioning CURRENT official reports is what we are all missing here. The Orwellian world is truly closing in.

Goodbye CFAX you just let go your only real journalist who had thoughtful questions for his interesting guests. I listened to the new line up and the mornings are loud and the afternoons are boring! Its back to music for me!!

I am very shocked to hear Ian Jessop, the only credible Talk Show host was fired. Ian was the ONLY reason I started listening to CFAX again. No doubt the owners of CFAX are major BC Liberal supporters, most likely the reason Ian was fired. I will never listen to CFAX again!

Wow, I’ve been trying CBC for the last week or so. What happened to that station. The weekends are great but weekdays are so darn left I can’t listen any more. I love the night programming and weekend shows. Why isn’t there a radio station that cators to regular hard working folks that are tired of all the political correctness. I think the truth seekers are a minority these days. I like infowars.com and The Rebel, of course they’re all the way to the right. There’s no balanced radio anymore.

This is really unjust, in Canada I thought we had the right of free speech and that is what Ian was/is doing. But we don’t have a democracy any longer I guess this is really no surprise. We have a really bad government in BC, they do not protect or care for the people. They just shut up those that are against what they are doing. I am sure they have caused his firing, they do what they want.

Very sad….they will surely be written in the history books, wonder if that brings any pride.

Hello J-lyn, just to note, Barry Bowman was NOT let go by CFAX, he crossed the street to Rogers CJVI after 27 some odd years with CFAX as ‘The Morning Mayor’ in 1996.

Sheila, so great you persevered! I had a look at Heather Kim’s Twitter account and my guess is she’s young and trying to make her mark. So is going “young” as well with her line-up. funny thing is, CFAX, I believe, has always appealed to an older demographic in its listeners. If only there was another station with any gumption where Ian could hang his hat. He’s exploring podcasts right now and I hope he’ll let us know here when that gets up and running. It’s so great that so many people are still posting here and it’s also wonderful to know I’m not the only person hungry for real meaty information! CFAX (Bell Media) has just goofed big time………..Ian Jessop is (was) one of the most accomplished hosts on radio! His stand-in’s are just not up to his standards! The firing of Ian was disrespectful to the CFAX listeners. The mgt has shown that the audience taste doesn’t matter to them unless it fits their corporate mould. Ian was controversial and polite and that’s, what made his show so interesting. I even sent a guest his way but unfortunately he didn’t end up interviewing the Dr on June 24 at 2pm 2016. His replacement did. I look forward to hearing Ian on his next radio station. Good-bye CFAX. You’re spineless!!

For those of you looking to add to the list of show sponsors to boycott FAS Fuels was one of the sponsors that also comes to mind along with Penninsula Coop, Heirloom Linen, Thrifty Foods, All Victoria Vacuum, Capital Iron, Island Marble, The JBI pub in James Bay, The Vitamin Shop, Pets West, Aerial Roofing, Vision Travel, Dodds Furniture, Campus Accura, Bolen Books, Toms RV.

Thanks Rod,

I am going to get a hold of a few of those sponsors that I have done business with in the – past. Just that – the past – and let them know about Ian’s firing – and why my business will be taken elsewhere, to one of their competitors.

Recently did just that with fresh farm eggs, as I live in the country 🙂 Owner of farm rudely interrupted a CVRD meeting, as if what he had to say was more important … Funny thing, he had ‘no idea’ how his land was actually zoned. So, guess who the fool was.

Anyway, all that to say – we can choose who we do business with, when we are made aware of info like yours. Now that you mention the sponsors, their dumb commercials are coming to me, as I spend hour upon hour with 1070 on …

Checking this site for info and updates. Thanks to all 🙂
Cheers, Sheila

I kept wondering “Where’s Ian?”. Now I know. I’m guessing too much truth for the corporate boys. True talk about climate change and the corrupt Provincial Liberals may have done him in. I’ll have to find out where he went and tune in there.
The current talk shows are very, very lame. Headlines about a new fence to keep the dogs off the walking path. Wow, important stuff!

If Bell makes a wise decision, they will gracefully and to their own benefit, announce shortly that now that they realise the large popularity of Ian Jessup’s show, that they will ask him to please return. Bell will smell like a rose, and listeners will not only be thrilled, but there will be an overall boost in ratings. Having a person actually discuss issues is a good thing.

July 7, 2016 – 7:43 pm

I am so angry Ian was fired from CFAX. Really enjoyed his program every day. This must be a political move as he was stepping on too many toes.

When I called CFAX they told me his ratings were too low thus the reason for the change. I find that very hard to believe as every day he would get many calls.

The new programming makes for very BORING radio and I will no longer listen to CFAX.

We have such wimpy media in this province – so sad.

Hello Sheila,

Thank you for this information, this is the first we heard of Ian being fired from CFAX. We will look into his dismissal, he has interviewed many a health professional over the years and we truly appreciate what he has done to put the message out regarding natural health alternatives.

Comments : Regarding a company you advertise on:

In light of Cfax’s – sudden – firing of – Ian Jessop, one of the BEST talk
show hosts in history, I am re-considering companies that align with Bell
Media and am NOT sure, that in the future, I can do business with them? In
fact, I am pulling my support of such companies – forever, after hearing
back from Cfax, which was unsatisfactory.

One company is yours – unfortunately.

If you have not heard about Ian’s firing, then please, I am happy to send
you a link to pugetsoundradio.com where you can read about how many
listeners are UPSET with what has been done.

Sincerely, but with regret.
In this day and age of making choices with our pocket books, in my case,
limited income, we all make ethical decisions.

Looking forward to the manager & owner’s feedback on this most IMPORTANT
concern. I had been planning to put another order in, for a long while,
since I live out of town. Not with strike, of course, but … can not
ethically do it – any longer.

Please reply. Thank you.

I’ve been reading the Canadian Broadcasters Council code of ethics and complaints.

http://www.cbsc.ca/
http://www.cbsc.ca/codes/cab-code-of-ethics/

ETHICS: It is recognized that the most valuable asset of a broadcaster is public respect, which must be earned and can be maintained only by adherence to the highest possible standards of public service and integrity.

It seems to me that we are the public and CFAX has not stepped up to explain the firing of Ian Jessop. I hope he sues.

Mr. D

I have tried to understand why Cfax is in the Radio Business given the fact Ian is no longer and the replacements are similar to “elevator music” l know they are there, however, l don’t listen to them either. Mr. Jessop was Cfax’s last hope in having myself listen. So long Cfax and l will wait for Mr. Jessop to fill the airwaves at whatever menu he chooses. Let’s hope he is back very soon with the voice of reason.

Ian Jessop

I am overwhelmed by the many gracious comments posted on my recent and unexpected departure from commercial radio.

When I got back into the radio business three years ago, I was asked what kind of show I wanted to do. I said that I wanted to do something different. Having listened on and off to talk radio over the years, I instinctively believed that there was an audience out there that craved information that was not being talked about especially since the departure from broadcasting of my good friend and former colleague Rafe Mair — my mentor.

Giving voice to the voiceless, questioning authority and commenting on public policy issues were, I naively thought, the tenets of good journalism. I wasn’t interested in dealing with the light, fluffy stuff that dominates talk radio today.

It was an honour to talk to so many interesting people and bring so many stories to light that normally are ignored. Particularly important to me were the stories of brave women like Jessica Ernst of Rosebud, Alberta who is fighting against big oil and big government polluting her town’s water supply; Alexandra Morton who is fighting to save the wild salmon in British Columbia. And there’s the remarkable story of Corrie Yelland of Victoria who used cannabis oil to rid her body of cancer five years ago when doctors said she would be dead within six months after refusing radiation. To this day, she helps people all around the world. These are just a few of the people I interviewed whose bravery and courage enriched my life.

My heartfelt thanks to all of you who listened to my program and found it worthwhile to take the time to do so. Without you, none of this would have been possible.

Despite my departure from commercial radio, I’m not done yet.

Stay tuned.

All the best,
Ian Jessop

I submitted a complaint to the CRTC regarding freedom of the press. Bell Media is censoring Ian based on his bringing up controversial subjects. We would not know about the corruption of the BC Liberals. the huge financial mess that BC Hydro is in, the private power industry, the alternative view of climate change by Dr. Tim Ball, etc., etc. I also sent an e-mail to CFAX stating that as I am no longer listening to their station, has Ian been brought back and when is on? Tongue in cheek. No reply. Just keep needling them to show our displeasure. I hope Ian gets another radio gig on a station that is not afraid of the truth.

Dear Ian, such a blessing to hear from you, again!!

And to know that your “fans” and devoted listeners are to ‘stay tuned’. We most certainly will.

I attribute so much to your wonderful interviews, you will never know. The 3 ladies you mentioned are especially near to my heart, too. They are all testaments to life’s journey.
As are all the men that also teach so much. Too many to list.

So glad to know you are rising above what has happened. Hearing Rafe warn you, would pierce me. All good, we know he meant well. And then when your voice was no more … Alas, they say, all things happen for a reason. You are MUCH greater than all of this …

What a gift and an honor to know you and continue to follow so many ‘Greats’ you hosted.
The best – always – look forward to more …
Most Sincerely, Sheila Paul

Hi Ian, So nice to hear from you. Giving voice to the voiceless, questioning authority and commenting on public issues absolutely are the tenants of good journalism and it is what the public wants to listen to and engage in ( as this site is testimony to ). It also plays a very important role in our democracy. CFAX’s reputation as a reputable talk show has taken a nose dive with the dismissal of you. Shameful and so disrespectful to all of us. I wish you all the best and will be watching to see where you resurface. Thank you so much for giving us all a voice and especially for caring.

Yet another ex-CFAX listener, due to this absurd decision. I didn’t always agree with Ian, but I never once questioned his motives or how he approached his responsibilities to the listener. I’m sure it would come as a shock to what’s left that they even have responsibilities to the listener. Corporatism at its best – see ya CFAX.

Ian…..thank so much your time on CFAX radio, I really miss listening to your program. Others, shied away from many of the topics you dealt with on your show. Unfortunately, the folks in power, who don’t like to hear some of the things your guests talked about, silenced you. I hope you will rise again, like a phoenix and show up on one of the other radio stations. You’re a first class broadcaster and person and I really want to thank you for sticking to your principles and discussing the issues that no one else would tackle.
