Now a University of Alberta water quality expert is also weighing in on the issue saying monitoring of the province’s groundwater will be greatly enhanced with the release of the data. Diane Orihel, biologist at the U of A’s Schindler Lab, said the Alberta Health database on water well quality reports represents a one-stop-shop for researchers. The problem is they can’t access it under any conditions. “Taxpayer dollars have paid for the collection of this data,” said Orihel in a telephone interview from a research lab in northwestern Ontario. “As taxpayers in the province, we should have access to that data.” [Emphasis added]
